Ask for an identifiable parts description

A vague description makes proposals difficult to compare. Ask the workshop to identify the proposed parts and explain any alternatives it offers. Do not assume that two different suppliers’ labels describe equivalent products or that price alone establishes suitability.

Put it into practice

  1. Request an identifiable specification.
  2. Ask the workshop to explain proposed alternatives.
  3. Record the option you authorize.

Read the scope before the total

Highlight each action in the estimate and mark whether it is included, optional or conditional on inspection. A line saying “from” or “subject to diagnosis” is not the same as a fixed quotation.
